How to improve your CRS ranking for Express Entry?

This complete CVIS Immigration guide tells you everything you need to know to improve your Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
There are two main ways to raise your CRS score, which will increase your chances of moving to Canada.
• First, make sure your Express Entry profile is as good as it can be.
• The second step is to get ready ahead of time for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) or a Provincial Nomination.

Ways to increase your CRS score

• Language
• Education
• Spouse as a Principal Applicant

Fix up your profile.
It is very important that your Express Entry profile is a true reflection of who you are. It could get you more Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, but it could also get you into a lot of trouble if you lied about yourself.
The first thing to remember is that the credentials you need to get into the Express Entry pool might not be the same as those that will give you the highest CRS score.

Language
To give just one example, language is a valuable CRS factor that, when combined with other factors, can be worth as many as 310 points (such as post-secondary education). Applicants who are married or in a common-law relationship can increase this score by another 160 points.
If you want to raise your overall grade, focus on language. For one thing, having language skills beyond the required minimum can earn you bonus points. To participate in the Federal Skilled Worker program, for instance, one needs only a CLB 7 (in all skills), but one can earn bonus points by raising each skill level one at a time, all the way up to CLB 10.

There are multiple parts of the CRS that award points for the effective use of language:
• Human capital factors.
• Spousal factors
• Skill-transferability factors
• Additional factors.

Education
Education can be worth up to 200 CRS points if it was completed entirely outside of Canada, and up to 250 points if it was completed in Canada and resulted in a post-secondary credential. By earning additional credentials, such as another degree or more Educational Credential Assessments (ECAs) for previously earned degrees, you can raise your initial education score.
To receive CRS points for education completed outside of Canada, an ECA is necessary.
Submit only one ECA to be considered for admission to the Federal Skilled Worker Class pool if you received your education outside of Canada.
There is no ECA necessary for applicants to the Federal Skilled Trades Class or the Canadian Experience Class to join the Express Entry pool.

A spouse or common-law partner might make a better principal applicant.
It might be helpful to compare your CRS scores as principal applicants if you are married or have a common-law partner.
In some cases, a main applicant’s CRS rating may be lower than that of their travelling companion. In these situations, it might be best for a spouse or common-law partner to submit the application on their behalf.

Work Experience
A candidate’s CRS score can be improved by gaining additional work experience or by better demonstrating previously acquired work experience.
Some applicants who appear to have unskilled job titles may actually have performed tasks that fall under Canada’s National Occupation Classification or NOC.
“Determine the skilled or unskilled status of your work by comparing your job tasks to those listed in the NOC occupations. This way, you can gain points you might have missed
Calculating the amount of time you spent at each job comes next after choosing the appropriate NOC for your work experience. For full-time or comparable part-time work experience, points are given.
Candidates for the Federal Skilled Worker Class must have a minimum of one year of continuous, skilled work experience in order to be considered. However, even intermittent work history can contribute to CRS points.

Job offers
Depending on the position, candidates who have a legitimate job offer can add 50 or 200 points to their CRS score.
Candidates may receive an additional 50 points toward their CRS score if they have a legitimate job offer in a NOC 0, A, or B level occupation. Candidates may receive an additional 200 points under the CRS if they have a legitimate job offer in one of the Major Group 00 Senior Management Occupations.
According to the IRCC, a job offer must be in writing and include all relevant information, such as pay and deductions, job responsibilities, and employment terms.

Work Experience and Provincial Nominee Programs
You may also be eligible for a nomination by one of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs, or PNPs if you accurately document your work experience. Candidates for permanent residence through Express Entry who are nominated by a Canadian province receive an additional 600 points toward their CRS score.
Provinces occasionally seek out applicants with specialized work experience, which you may in fact possess but do not consider relevant because it is unrelated to your primary line of work.

Prepare actively for a provincial nomination or an ITA
Everyone in the Express Entry pool should be actively preparing for an ITA or provincial nomination, regardless of their CRS score.
Even if you only have a CRS score of 299, a provincial nomination could suddenly raise it by 600 points, virtually ensuring that you will receive an ITA in the upcoming Express Entry invitation round.
After receiving an ITA, candidates only have 60 days to submit their complete application; some PNPs give even less time. You can get started right away after accepting an invitation if you have the necessary paperwork ready in advance.
