It’s important to know if you need a visa to visit Canada before beginning the application process.
In other instances, you may be able to travel with just an eTA.
A Canada Visitor Visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or Canada Tourist Visa, is a piece of paper stamped into your passport by the Canadian visa office proving that you have satisfied the criteria for temporary resident status in Canada (either as a visitor, a student, or a worker).
Most tourists are permitted to stay in Canada for up to six months. The immigration and customs officers at the airport or seaport may grant you a shorter or longer stay than six months.
When your authorized stay ends, the appropriate notations will be made in your passport. The immigration officer may also provide you with something called a visitor record that includes the date you need to depart.
For a TRV, you need to meet the following minimum standards:
Applying for a Canadian visitor visa involves three main phases. These measures consist of:
First, figure out if you have the legal right to enter Canada.
The second step is to compile all your supporting materials.
Step 3: Submit an Online Application
When requesting a TRV, you must provide evidence in the form of five primary documents. While the specifics of each immigration case can vary widely, the following documents are typically required when applying for a “Temporary Resident Visa” in Canada.
Disclaimer: It's possible that you'll require additional paperwork and background details. Before leaving the country, citizens need to apply for a TRV. No visitor to Canada will be able to get a TRV at the airport.
You can apply for a visa extension if you are already in Canada and wish to remain there for a longer period of time than your current visa allows.
You will be issued a visitor record if your application to extend your stay in Canada is successful.
A visitor record:
The presence of a previous visitor record doesn't really ensure admission to Canada. You'll need a passport or other acceptable travel document to re-enter Canada from any country other than the United States.
Your current visitor visa cannot be extended past its expiration date. Either apply to have your status reinstated so that you can remain in Canada or leave the country.
Within 90 days of your visitor visa expiration, you must submit your application for Restoration of Status.
Although applying for a Canadian Visitor Visa seems straightforward, some people still try to “do it themselves” without consulting an immigration lawyer.
Without proper preparation, TRV applications have a higher chance of being denied. Extremely high expectations are in place. The most common cause of application rejection is improperly completed paperwork.
One uncrossed t or undotted I should not prevent a person from realizing their dreams. Having the assistance of a licensed immigration consultant can improve your chances of having your TRV applications approved.
